What Does The Term 'in-patient' Mean?

This is the term that most private medical insurance policies use for hospital treatment that requires a stay of one or more nights.

If you have even the lowest level of cover you will be insured for staying in either a private hospital, or the private wing of an NHS hospital. Your insurance will also cover any further treatment or investigations related to your stay in hospital. The whole point of the insurance is to get you back to full health as quickly as possible, and therefore all aspects of your treatment are covered.

Example: if you are diagnosed with kidney stones and need to have an operation and a few days in hospital, you would be an in-patient.
