What Are The Different Levels Of Cover Available To Me?

Different insurance companies word their types of cover in different ways, however here we should be able to give you a good idea of the basics.

Budget cover - covers all treatment for short term, acute conditions; in-patient tests; surgery; accommodation within the hospital and nursing.

Standard cover - as above, with extended services such as physiotherapy treatment, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, 24 hour GP access, and cash payments for treatment received as an NHS in-patient.

Comprehensive cover - as above, with the addition of having specialist consultations, treatment and tests that are not related to a stay in hospital.

Treatment relating to a stay in hospital is called 'in-patient' treatment. All private medical insurance policies cover this type of treatment. It is the 'out-patient' treatments, i.e. those not related to a hospital stay or operation, that are not included in the budget policies.
