How are the premiums calculated?
All the questions you are asked to complete online will influence your premium even down to your postcode. Within milliseconds all your details will be electronically transmitted to a main computer which works out your premium.
The following are some of the more important factors that will influence your premium: -
For your Home Insurance:
- How much your property is insured for
- Whether the property is detached, semi, terraced etc
- How it is constructed (e.g. brick with slate roof)
- The year the property was built
- Whether the area has any history of flood, subsidence, or land heave
- Whether the property is in a good state of repair
- Your Post Code
For your Contents Insurance:
- The value of your contents
- The type of and value of any named valuables
- Whether you want "All Risks" insurance and for how much (i.e. insurance for your possessions when you take them away from home.)
- Whether you want to include Bicycles, frozen food in the freezer etc
- Whether the property is secure - the types of locks on your doors and windows, whether you have a burglar alarm and smoke alarms, whether you're a member of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme - all these will be taken into account.
