How long will my Bankruptcy last?

The standard length of a bankruptcy is 12 months. However, if your bankruptcy is simple and/or the Official Receiver considers that the circumstances behind your bankruptcy were largely beyond your control, the Official Receiver may decide that you can be discharged early - usually after 6 months.

If the Official Receiver believes that you have not co-operated whilst you have been bankrupt, then the Official Receiver can apply to the Courts to have your bankruptcy period extended.
