Who has to know about my Bankruptcy?

Once your bankruptcy order has been made, it will be published in the London Gazette which is an official publication containing legal notices. It will also be advertised in your local newspaper within the "public notices" section. Therefore, your Bankruptcy will become public knowledge.

In addition notice of your Bankruptcy will be given to courts, sheriffs, the Land Registry, the Inland Revenue, and any relevant professional organisation of which you may be a member. Your bank and building societies, mortgage company, pension companies and any insurance companies with whom you have investments or life assurance policies, will also be contacted.

And, of course, the Official Receiver will write to everyone to whom you owe money.

The Official Receiver may also contact any other persons he has reason to believe could provide relevant information about our financial affairs prior to you being made Bankrupt.
