Hot Topics
- Can you be refused Travel Insurance?
- Insurance is all about risk. The greater the risk of an illness, accident, loss or another event occurring, the higher the premium you will be expected to pay for cover. If the Insurance Company decides that the chances of an incident occurring are extremely high, it is not obliged to insure you.
- What’s the difference between standard and business travel insurance?
- Business trips and pleasure trips involve different risks and the respective travel insurance policies reflect this distinction.
- What is Form E111 and do you really need it?
- Yes, if you are travelling within the European Economic Area, you should get the Form E111, which entitles most UK residents to free, or reduced- cost emergency medical treatment. However, you will still need appropriate travel insurance for complete peace of mind.
- What insurance cover do you need to drive abroad?
- If you are driving your own car or hiring a car whilst you are abroad you need to have appropriate car insurance in addition to travel insurance.
- What does the term excess waiver mean?
- When you get a quote for your travel insurance you may find that the policy is subject to an excess waiver. This means that you will be responsible for paying the first part of a claim.
In all these instances, standard travel insurance is unlikely to meet your needs. Quite simply, single trip insurance and annual or multi-trip policies only cover trips lasting under 90 days.
So if you are going away for a longer period and planning to visit different countries, backpackers travel insurance or worldwide travel insurance is your best option.
By the way, if you change your itiniary and decide to visit different countries than those stated on your travel insurance application form, you must inform your travel insurer to avoid invalidating your cover.
This is because the cost of medical treatment varies from one country to another and the further away you are, the more expensive it is to get you home – factors which your Travel Insurance Company will have taken into consideration when they calculated your original premium.
