Higher risks like this are why few if any standard travel policies cover winter sports holidays - all the more reason why you should get adequate insurance provision if you are going ski-ing.

One way of doing this is topping up a standard policy with ski-cover. However, this may only give you limited protection compared to specialist ski travel insurance. Sometimes Travel Insurance Companies combine ski-ing and extreme sports cover in one policy.

Either way, a specialist policy should include £1million cover for medical treatment (more for the USA), £1million for personal liability in case you injure someone else accidentally, air ambulance to the UK and theft of ski equipment.
