How does private medical insurance work?
Private Medical Insurance is exactly like car insurance or home insurance. It is only there in case you need it. Once you have chosen your policy, you will pay your premiums on a yearly, quarterly or monthly basis, whichever suits you best.
What Is Covered By Private Medical Insurance?
Private Medical Insurance is designed to cover only treatment for curable, short term illness or injury. Some illnesses and treatments can never be expected to be included in any policy.
What Is Not Covered By Private Medical Insurance?
Private Medical Insurance plans do not cover chronic or critical illnesses which cannot be cured, for example multiple sclerosis, asthma or diabetes.
What does the term ‘out-patient' mean?
This is the term that most private medical insurance policies use for treatment given at a hospital which does not require an overnight stay, or any recovery time.
Where Would I Get Treatment?
There are a number of private hospitals in the UK – in your area there will probably be at least two hospitals at a convenient distance, depending on whether you live near a town or city.

What Exactly Is Private Medical Insurance (PMI)?

Private Medical Insurance (or Private Health Insurance as it is sometimes known) insures you against the costs of private medical treatment for curable short-term or 'acute' medical conditions.

Your treatment could include surgery, specialist consultants, accommodation and care at a private hospital (or in a private ward of an NHS hospital) - and depending on the level of cover you choose, you can make a claim on your insurance and receive the treatment for free.

As with a car insurance policy, you will sign up for a year with a PMI company and pay your premiums either monthly, quarterly or annually. It is your choice whether to renew with your insurer each year or not. They will issue you with a renewal and details of your new premiums at renewal time.

However, before each renewal date our Health Insurance Partner, Hifacs PMI, conducts a full market review for every client to ensure you're still getting the best value for money. Then advice is provided regarding you're renewal options. Its all part of our service.
