How Do You calculate the rebuilding cost for your Home Insurance?

You don’t need to! Both the companies that handle our Home Insurance will estimate your rebuilding cost based upon the information you provide and show you their suggested figure on screen.

Whilst a calculation will be made for you, you can change the suggested rebuilding cost. This may be appropriate if you have an up to date rebuilding cost from a surveyor or sometimes your mortgage lender will tell you how much they want the property to be insured for.

If you really want to work out the figure for yourself, we recommend that you obtain one of the following leaflets:

“How to work out the Rebuilding cost of your home” published by The Association of British Insurers. You’ll find their web site at:

“Guide to House Rebuilding Costs for Insurance Valuation” available from The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
