Are There Any Situations That Would
Result In Your Claim Being Refused?
Yes, there are.
First of all please ensure that you answer all the online questions accurately. If you don’t then the insurance company is entitled to refuse any claim. For example, if you answer that you have a burglar alarm and you haven’t, that would constitute clear grounds for the refusal of a burglary claim.
Another obvious reason for a refusal is where the insurance company becomes aware that a claim is somehow fraudulent. For example, a claim for an item that did not exist or was lost or damaged in circumstances in not disclosed to the insurance company. This would also include intentional damage (which the insurers call malicious damage). You should be aware that insurance companies pool information about fraudulent claims and such a claim can result in you being refused insurance for many years to follow.
All insurance companies will specify exactly what is covered by your insurance and most will also spell out what is not covered. You’ll find these details in the Key Features booklet, which you should be able to access online, and which will accompany your policy documents.
Finally, make sure your monthly premiums are kept up to date!
