Is it better to have a Guaranteed or a Reviewable premium?
In the medium to longer term we believe that a Reviewable policy will cost you more than a Guaranteed policy. On the other hand Reviewable policies do have the advantage of a lower premium at the outset and this appeals to many people, especially if budgets are tight.
If you’re asked to supply more information or go for a medical, will the premium increase?
No, not necessarily. If you’re asked for more information or to have a medical it does not automatically follow that your premium will increase. To put this in context, in our experience 88% of people who apply for life insurance qualify for the price first quoted.
Is a medical absolutely necessary?
No. Most people do not require a medical. Normally an insurer will only ask for a medical if you have existing health issues that cannot be resolved by a report from your GP or if you have applied for an especially high sum of insurance.
When Does My Cover Start?
Once your insurer has accepted your Application, your insurance cover can start straight away.

But to give you guidance, if your Application is straightforward, you could be 'on risk' the same day as LifeSearch, our Partner for Life Insurance, receives your application.

If it is straightforward, and you have sent your Application form back in the post, the quickest will be a week.

Most insurers accept about 3 in 10 of Applications almost immediately. For the others there are delays; about half of Applicants have to wait three weeks and to 2 in 10 wait 6 weeks or more. The remainder are largely completed within 10 weeks.

We aren’t happy with such delays any more than you will be – but this is a realistic answer to the question.
