What are the different levels of cover available to me?
Because many insurance companies word their types of cover in different ways, there is no 'one way' to explain the kinds of cover that are available to you.
Hot Topics
- How does dental insurance work?
- Dental insurance is exactly like car insurance or home insurance – it is there to support you when you need it. Once you have signed up for a policy, you will pay your premiums on a yearly or monthly basis, whichever you prefer.
- What is not covered by dental insurance?
- Dental insurance is a good all-encompassing policy, and does not have many exclusions. However, here are a few pointers worth remembering:
- I need treatment but only took out the policy a few weeks ago - can I make a claim?
- It is an industry standard for dental insurance companies to deny you full cover for the first 3 months of your insurance plan.
- Do dental insurers offer a money-back guarantee?
- If you decide that you don't want to take out your dental insurance policy, you will normally be offered a money-back guarantee.
- Does it make any difference if I buy my dental insurance through a broker?
- Using a broker could save you money when it comes to dental insurance – because they will be able to get a quote from all the dental insurance providers in the UK.
Standard cover - restorative treatment - e.g. fillings, extractions; remedial care - e.g. root treatments, repairs to crowns, bridges or dentures, anaesthetics, periodontal care; major restorative care - e.g. new crowns, bridges and dentures; orthodontics and reimbursement of NHS treatment charges.
Comprehensive cover - as above, with the addition of having routine medical examinations included.
Emergency dental treatment is covered by the NHS. However any extra treatment arising from the emergency to bring your teeth back to their former health will be covered by your dental insurance.
