Why, when you only want Critical Illness cover, should you consider combining it with Life Insurance?
Two good reasons: You are likely to save money! And if you died within the survival period (see below), the claim would still be paid under the terms of your Life Insurance.
Hot Topics
- Is there a waiting period to receive payment on a Critical Illness claim?
- All Critical Illness policies require you to survive a specified number of days following diagnosis in order to have a valid claim. The typical survival period is 28 days but some insurance companies have reduced this to 14 days.
- What decisions will you have to make before you can get a quotation?
- You will have to make four decisions:
- Will Critical Illness policies permit the use of alternative medicines?
- After you have been diagnosed with a qualifying Critical Illness and the claim has been paid you can spend your money however you like. So if you want to spend some of your money on alternative medicines then that’s entirely your choice.
- What information do you need to provide to apply for a Critical Illness policy?
- The Application form will ask questions regarding your height, weight, age, sex, current state of health, occupation, hobbies etc.
- What happens if your condition deteriorates after making a claim on your Critical Illness policy?
- As far as your insurance is concerned, it makes no difference. Your policy has already paid out and your ex- insurer has no further interest in your health.
Another aspect to consider is that all Critical Illness policies have what is called a “survival period”. In order to claim under Critical Illness Insurance you have to survive for a minimum number of days. It’s normally 28 days following diagnosis but some Insurance Companies have reduced this to 14 days. If you were to die within that survival period any claim would be invalid. But if you also have Life Insurance cover the claim would be paid under the provisions of the Life cover.
Please note that all the combined Life and Critical Illness policies we sell are on a first event basis. This means that if you have a claim for Critical Illness the policy automatically terminates – another claim cannot be made if you subsequently die!
