Why is it worth making a Balance Transfer?
If you have a large outstanding balance on one or more credit and store cards – you will undoubtedly be able to save money by transferring your balance to another credit card.

There are number of ways you can choose to pay off your credit card balance - either by Direct Debit, by Debit Card over the phone, by bank transfer from your bank or by cheque.

Your can choose to pay all, or some of the outstanding balance, choosing any of the following options:

  • the minimum amount of your credit card bill each month - i.e. 2 % of the outstanding balance or £5, whichever is the greater. If your balance is less than £5 the whole balance is payable.
  • the total outstanding amount each month any amount you can afford to pay whenever is convenient for you - i.e. you can make a payment off your outstanding balance at any time, you don't have to wait until the pay date.
  • a fixed amount each month - i.e. agree a monthly payment which covers the minimum payment
  • If your fixed Direct Debit payment is less than your minimum payment due, the credit card company will instead request the minimum payment under your Direct Debit mandate. This will ensure that your account does not go into arrears.
