This insurance will ONLY protect any damage done to third parties involved in an accident, not to your own vehicle. There is also the question of personal compensation, usually this is also covered by a third party policy, if in doubt check your policy documents.

Why do some Motor insurers specialise in just lady drivers?

Every Motor Insurance company is different, each have specific market niches that they try and specialise in, some choose mature drivers, some lady drivers and some young drivers. They all different priorities, and marketing strategies which aim to maximise the number of applicants within the market they have chosen to specialise in. Some of the largest more generic motor insurance providers will try and provide a good level of coverage through out the whole market offering competitive premiums to most Motor drivers, examples of these are Tesco’s and Admiral.

Women represent a lower risk to the insurer than a male would at a like age. This is not to say that they don’t have any accidents, they do around the same number, but that each accident, on average, causes less damage that needs to be repaired. This in turn means that to insurance companies a woman driver represents a greatly reduced risk.

The reason that women's claims are so much cheaper than men’s is because they have less serious accidents. Women have been proven to drive differently than men do. They tend to take fewer risks, don't drive as fast, and are less likely to be showing off to their mates with fancy driving manoeuvres.
Those companies that specialise only on woman drivers are traditionally very competitive, in order to get the best possible quote you should try a selection of differing insurance providers including several ‘woman only’ insurers.
