Am I insured to drive someone else's car?
Many motor insurance providers will allow their comprehensive policy holders to drive any other vehicle, as long as it is already insured by another driver. This means that you can drive your friend's car BUT it is likely that you will only be insured to third party level.
Therefore if you are in an accident that was not your fault, then all damages will be covered by your insurance. If the fault is your own, then you will have to personally pay for the repairs to your friend's car.
Some insurance providers will allow you to drive other cars whilst you are only third party insured.
NOTE if in doubt, check your policy documents before using someone else’s car.
